The impressions of the idyllic countryside landscapes and the rustic rural sentimentality permeate Pham Hong Son's works. The details of each of his pictures are vivid upon the predominantly white background that he employs to accentuate the interplay of simplicity and coarseness of man's intimate attachment to nature.

Replete with sincerity and simplicity, Son said; “I wish to harmonize myself with the indigenous creatures and people of the land, where black and white seem to carry color, scent, romance, and rhythm, with a touch of natural music from water and wind.”
