Sheba Chhachhi

(b. 1958) Born in 1958 in Harare, Ethiopia, Chhachhi was educated at Delhi University after which she attended the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. She has participated in numerous solo shows including ‘Winged Pilgrims: A Chronicle from Asia’ at Volte Gallery, Mumbai, in 2012, Bose Pacia, New York, in 2008 and Nature Morte, New Delhi, in 2007-2008; ‘Evoking the Pause’ at Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai, in 2011; ‘Winged Pilgrims & other Creatures’ at Walsh Gallery, Chicago, in 2009; ‘Between Stories’ at Gallery Paolo Curti/ Annamaria Gambuzzi, Milan, in 2009; ‘Ganga’s daughters, Neelkanth : Poison/Nectar, When the Gun is Raised, Dialogue Stops’ at the Townsend Centre, University of California, Berkley, in 2005; and ‘Ganga’s Daughters: Meetings with Women Ascetics 1992-2004’ at Nature Morte, New Delhi, in 2004. Amongst the recent group shows in which her works have been features are ‘Difficult Loves’ at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, in 2013; ‘India-Lado A Lado’ at SESC Belezinho, Brazil, in 2012; ‘Chimera, The Collectors Show’ at the Singapore Art Museum in 2012; ‘Staging Selves: Power, Performativity & Portraiture’ at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, in 2011; ‘Where Three Dreams Cross’ at the White Chapel Gallery, London, and Foto Museum, Winterthur, in 2012; and ‘Still Moving Images’ at the Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon, in 2008.
