Skakir Hassan Al Said was born in Iraq in 1925. He graduated from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts in 1954 and had his first solo exhibition at the Institute of Fine Arts Gallery in Badghdad the same year. He later studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1955 to 1959. In 1976, his work was exhibited at the Venice Biennale and three years later, at the 15th Sao Paolo Beinnale. Shakir Hassan Al Said received the first prize at the International Festival of Baghdad in 1986 as well as the Saddam prize for the Arts. His works have been exhibited internationally, namely in Kuwait, London, Lebanon and Jordan. In 1971, Shaker Hassan Al Said founded One Dimension, a group of artists working with calligraphy. His work is present in several private and public collections including the Baghdad International Airport, Ghazi Sultan Hall, Kuwait and the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris.
