(b. 1906)
Born in Alexandria in 1906, Seif Wanly and his brother Adham Wanly (1908-1959) are considered to have been two of the greatest Egyptian painters and helped introduced Modern Art in Egypt after studying with the Italian artist Otorino Bechhi. In 1942 he set up his own studio with his brother and together they participated in more than seventeen exhibitions, notably in the Venice Biennale and in the Sao Paulo Biennale. After Adham passed away in 1959, Self continued to paint and did so until his demise in 1979. Today, an entire floor of the Mahmoud Said Museum in Alexandria is dedicated to Seif and Adham Wanly.
