Douaihy was born in Ehden in 1913. After working with Habibi Srour in Beirut for four years, he received a scholarship from the Lebanese government to study at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris between 1932 and 1936. He returned to Lebanon where he worked until 1950 and later left for the USA, remaining there until 1975. His group and solo shows include the Salons des Artistes Francais in Paris in 1934, the New York World Fair and his acclaimed solo exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art. In 1956, he was awarded the Lebanese National Order of the Cedar and in 1980 the Gold Medal of the Academia d’Italia dello Arte el del Lavoro. Saliba Douaihy passed away in 1994.
