RM Palaniappan (b. 1957) is a well-known Chennai-based artist and an alumnus of the Government College of Arts Crafts, Chennai. He was the Artist in Residence at the Oxford University in 1996 and the recipient of several awards, honours and residencies including the Fulbright Grant, Charles Wallace India Trust Grant, International Visitorship programme of USIS, and Senior Fellowship, Government of India. He has held 19 one-man shows across the country and also in Holland, in the US, the UK and Korea. He has curated several exhibitions including a special one organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi to commemorate the golden Jubilee of India’s independence in 1997. He has served on the jury of several exhibitions and art competitions around the country. He is a Life Trustee at Dakshina Chitra (Heritage Museum)/Madras Craft Foundation, Chennai; and art advisor at Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai. Since 1997 he has been the Regional Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi.
