(b. 1974)
Gregor Hildebrant is a German contemporary artist who has been living and working in Berlin since 1999. Though he works with a plethora of materials, Hildebrant is best known for his use of cassettes and videotapes, which he employs in paintings and collages that range from small canvas works to large-scale installations. He typically embeds a particular song into the fabric of each piece from which the title is often derived. Hildebrant’s works make formal reference to Minimalism, though his use of subjective and autobiographical citations serve to renounce this. Since 2002, Hildebrant has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, United States and Asia. Most recently, his solo shows include These Flowers Will Never Die at Galerie Isa, Mumbai, India? in 2014; Die Geschichte läuft über uns at Galerie Perrotin, New York, USA in 2014; Du stehst im Licht, du stehst im Schatten at Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Israel in 2013; and? Orphische Schatten at Almine Rech Gallery, Brussels, Belgium in 2013. He has also curated various exhibitions throughout Germany.
