Born in Mumbai in 1964, Anju Dodiya received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Painting from the Sir J. J. School of Arts, in 1986. She has held three solo shows at Gallery Chemould, Mumbai, in 1991, 1996 and 2001, and has exhibited widely in galleries across the world. She has also participated in “In Small Format” at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 1993; “Women Artists”, Hyderabad, 1994, “ Recent Trends in Contemporary Indian Art”, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, 1995; ‘Cinemascape : An Artists’ Tribute to 100 years of Cinema” at Lakhereen Gallery, Mumbai, 1996. Her most recent exhibitions include 2012; “Terrestial Bodies”, 1 x 1 Art Gallery, Dubai, 2012, among others. Dodiya has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the “Harmony Award” presented by Reliance Industries, Mumbai in 1999; the Indo-American Society’s “Young Achiever Award” in 2001; “Zee Astitva Award”, presented by Archana Trust Suburban with Zee TV in 2007; and has been nominated twice for the “Sotheby’s Prize for Contemporary Art”, in 1998 and 2000. The artist lives and works in Mumbai.
