Born in 1985 in the UAE, Lateefa Bint Maktoum is the founder and director of Tashkeel, a public studio for artists and designers living and working in the UAE. She graduated from Zayed University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in visual arts. She is a visual artist and a curator who aims to promote art from the UAE and she has been the honorary patron of START since January 2008. Since 2004, her works have been exhibited in the UAE in public spaces as well as at charity auctions. She was awarded many prizes including the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patrons of the Arts awards in 2010. Her works have been exhibited galleries in Dubai. Lateefa’s first international exhibition was in 2008, in a group show held at the Roger Smith Hotel in New York. She has also participated in the DNC Slideshow exhibition in Denver, Colorado. In September 2009, Lateefa was selected to exhibit in ‘Across the Gulf’ as part of the Arc Biennale in Brisbane, Australia. In 2010, her works were presented at the 2010 UAE pavilion in Shanghai. Her works are included in many private collections internationally.
