Born in 1969, Sungchul Hong is a South Korean contemporary artist who embraces modern technologies and various media within his work. He earned his BFA and MFA in Sculpture from Hong-Ik University, Seoul in 1994 and received his MFA in Integrated Media from the California Institute of the Arts in 2001. Hong has exhibited many times in the Far East, the USA and Europe and his work features in several international collections. Most notable solo exhibitions were 'White Cube', CalArts, Los Angeles (2000), USA; 'RGB show_Green', Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea (2002); 'Perpetual Mirror', Gallery IHN, Seoul, South Korea (2007); 'Les mains dé FILent Les Yeux FILent', Galerie Orem, Paris France (2010); 'Solid but Fluid', HADA | Vyner Street, London, UK (2012); and 'Solid but Fluid', Pontone Gallery, London, UK (2017). His works are part of the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in South Korea while some of his commissioned public art projects are housed at the Platinum River Building, the Federation of Korean Industries Head Office Building, and the Dansung Theater, among others. The artist lives and works in Seoul, South Korea.
