LOT ESSAY
The 2022 Anniversary Grand Mori features the traditional Kyoto-style handmade Japanese lacquer technique. Each dial is a masterpiece that is individually handcrafted by the female craftsmen in Kyoto who inherited the technique. Made using urushi which has been used as a lacquer in Japan for more than 10,000 years, the sap from the lacquer tree is refined and colored with pigments and other ingredients to produce a final work characterised by its beautiful finish and durability.

The watch relishes in a concept and philosophy Hajime Asaoka pays close attention to — “nature is the teacher.” It is inspired by the canopies of the forest where small glimmers of gold are present to represent sunlight poking through layers of foliage. The watch features a “Premium” 90S5 Miyota movement, caseback engravings, a 316L high-polished 37mm stainless steel case, and of course, a hand-applied urushi lacquer dial.

As testament to the craftmanship and artistry of the brand, the 2022 Grand Mori sold out in 12 minutes when it was released in May 2022.
