LOT ESSAY
In the world of diamond watches, Chopard excels when it comes to uniqueness. Cornering the market on the inventive diamond setting with its signature Happy Diamonds Collection, it features diamonds roaming free in the dial to reveal their full beauty and glitter.

The design, inspired by waterfalls was chosen by a panel of leading jewelers as the "most interesting watch of the year" at the time of its release. Chopard eventually introduced new evolutions of the same concept with watch collections of rubies, emeralds, or sapphire merrily spinning on the dial. The later Happy Sport collections, including the current lot, were intended to contrast the original design, as seen here. The diamonds roll elegantly around the dial, and the stones roll freely across the watchcase.

Chopard

Le Petit-Fils de L.U. Chopard & Cie S.A., commonly known as Chopard, is a Swiss manufacturer and retailer of luxury watches, jewelry, and accessories. Since its inception 160 years ago, Chopard remains one of the most well-rounded watches and jewelry houses on the globe. The company produces some of the world's most exquisite jewelry and timepieces - catering to women and men alike.

Founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in 1860 in a small village in Switzerland, his initial timepieces were incredible works of art in itself - elegantly designed with filigree, offering the finest enamel dials and deeply dedicated to precision and quality. Chopard created wonderful pocket chronometers and exquisitely decorated watches for women for many years as a family-owned business until 1963 when Karl Scheufele bought the firm from Chopard's grandson.

Scheufele, one of the finest jewelers of his time, incorporated his innovative gem-setting and exquisite jewelry designs into Chopard's timepieces paving the way for the elegantly jeweled wristwatches the brand is known to this day. His purchase of the "Le Petit Fils de L.U. Chopard" - now located in Geneva - gave him the independence and the ability to produce the watches he envisioned. He spent several years streamlining the brand, eventually relaunching Chopard as a top-of-the-line luxury hallmark.

Chopard excels at the intricate art of classical and complicated watchmaking and is also one of the few luxury watch brands that creates many of its parts, even creating their superior watch movements. Among its myriad timepieces of technical excellence are perpetual calendars, chronographs, dual time zones, skeletons, and moon phase watches.

A giant in Haute Joaillerie (high-jewelry) watchmaking, Chopard is at the forefront of the industry with a legendary reputation around the world as a brand that embodies the epitome of elegance, technical prowess, design, and tradition. It maintains its position by offering a wonderful array of exciting and complicated timepieces, lush high-jeweled masterpieces, and invigorating sport marvel unparalleled throughout the ages.
