Born in 1967 in Delhi, Rajnish Kaur completed a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in painting from the College of Art, New Delhi, in 1988. She followed this with a Master’s degree from the same institution in 1991. Kaur also received a Post Graduate Diploma from the Chelsea College of Art, London, in 2002. Kaur was awarded the Charles Wallace Scholarship to study in London in 2001-02. Rajnish Kaur’s paintings embody a youthful play of colours. Her bold application of paint on large surfaces reveals her expressionistic tendencies. Among her solo shows are ‘Untitled’ at Bodhi Art, Mumbai, in 2006-07; 'Woven Memoirs' at Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore, in 2004; and others at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, and Art Inc., New Delhi. Kaur’s work has also been featured as a part of several group exhibitions including 'Unclaimed Spaces' at Gallery Threshold, New Delhi, in 2009-10; 'Progressive to Altermodern: 62 Years of Indian Modern Art' at Grosvenor Gallery, London, in 2009; 'Of Personal Narratives And Journeys' at Bodhi Art, New Delhi, in 2008; ‘Towards Abstraction’ at Bodhi Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2005; and ‘Paths of Progression’at Saffronart and Bodhi Art, New Delhi, Mumbai, New York and Singapore, also in 2005. She was awarded the 6th Bharat Bhavan Bienniale Award, Bhopal in 1996. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
