Born in 1971, Praneet Soi completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda, in 1994 and 1996 respectively, before obtaining another Master’s degree from the University of California in San Diego in 2001. Soi has also completed courses at the Empire Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam. The artist’s solo shows include ‘Notes on Astaticism’ and ‘Still Life’ at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2011 and 2009; Het Oog (the Eye) at Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven, in 2009; ‘Cut-Out’ and ‘Northern Wind’ at Gallery Martin Van Zomeren, Amsterdam, in 2009 and 2005; ‘Juggeraut’ at Project 88, Mumbai, and Galerie Martin Van Zomeren, Amsterdam, in 2007-08; and ‘Face to Face’ at the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 2006. His work has also been featured in group shows including ‘Cynical Love: Life in the Everyday’ at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, in 2012; ‘Everyone Agrees: It’s about to Explode’ at the India Pavilion, Venice, in 2011; Biennale ‘ID/entity’ at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2010; ‘Progressive to Altermodern’ at Grosvenor Gallery, London, in 2009; and ‘Bird in Hand’ at Gallery Project 88, Mumbai, in 2008. Soi lives and works between Amsterdam and Kolkata.
