Born in 1975 in New York, Chitra Ganesh graduated with a Bachelors degree in Art-Semiotics and Comparative Literature from Brown University in 1996. In 2002, she completed her Master’s degree in Visual Arts from Columbia University, New York. Solo exhibitions of her work include ‘The Word of God(ess): Chitra Ganesh’ at the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, in 2011; ‘On-site: Her Silhouette Returns’ at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, in 2009-10; The Strangling Power of Dust and Stars’ at Nature Morte, Berlin, in 2011; ‘The Ocean Beneath’ at Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai in 2009; ‘Project Space’ at Haas & Fischer, Zurich in 2007; and ‘Upon Her Precipice’ at Thomas Erben Gallery, New York in 2007. She has participated in several group shows including ‘So, Who Do You Think You Are’? at the San Jose Museum of Art in 2011-12 ‘Concurrent India’ at the Helsinki Art Museum Tennis Palace, in 2011; ‘Bring Me A Lion’ at the Hunt Gallery, St. Louis, in 2010; ‘Moment as Monument’ presented by Seven Art, New Delhi, and Thomas Erben, New York, Travancore Palace, New Delhi, in 2009 and ‘Anomalies: From Nature to the Future’ at Rossi & Rossi, London, in 2009. Ganesh received the Astraea Visual Arts award in 2004 and a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts in 2005. The Artist lives and works in New York.
