Born in 1943 in Aleppo, Ali Sarmini is a Syrian painter best known for his work, "Quneitra on Remains". He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts in 1972 from the University of Damascus where he became the Vice-Dean from 1981 to 1991; and eventually the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art from 1993 to 2001. He received his Doctorate in Fine Arts from the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Arts in Germany and gained professorship in 1993. Sarmini has exhibited internationally, most notably in Germany and Russia.
