Justin Ponmany

(b. 1974) Born in Kerala, Justin Ponmany completed his Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1996. Ponmany has had several solo shows in India and abroad, including those at Gallery Loop, Seoul, in 2008; ‘Who’s Keeping Score’ at Bose Pacia, New York, in 2007; ‘Procreation’ at Nature Morte, Milan, in 2006; Salt (Plastic Memory-Port II)’ at Nature Morte, New Delhi, in 2005; and ‘Non-biodegradable Memory’ at Sakshi Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2004. His work has also been featured in group shows including ‘All That Is Sold Melts into Air’ at ‘Lakeeren, Mumbai in 2009-10, ‘Dear Jobir’ at the Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2009; “Indian Summer’ at Galerie Christian Hosp, Berlin, in 2009; ‘Threshold’ at Aicon Gallery, New York, in 2009; ‘The Audience and the Eavesdropper: New Art from India and Pakistan’ at Phillips de Pury & Company, London and New York, in 2008-09; ‘Chalo! India’ at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, in 2008; ‘Thermocline of Art’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Karlsruhe, in 2007; and ‘Indian Contemporaries’ at Arario Gallery, Beijing, in 2006. In 2005, Ponmany received the Artist of the Future Award from the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai. The artist lives and works in Mumbai.
